Certain noxious ideologies just refuse to die, and still, those crazy beliefs continue to spit out some kernel of truth.

Elites condemn them, yet they also greatly believe in them – and even practice some of their sinister arts. The regular people will embrace the ideological hodgepodge for the simple solutions to their hard lives. Meanwhile, these false faiths slowly strangle the last remaining decency from our putrid lives.

Racialism-Eugenics is one such ideology that will probably never fully die in the modern world. The reason is that its origins lie at the excrement of the European colonial empires who had created this dastardly mess, some five hundred years ago.

The first colonial monsters and empires represented the Spanish and the Portuguese invaders. Many racialists like to quote from the founders of modern eugenics, polygenism, craniometry and phrenology, (structural brain differences), but modern racial sciences and eugenics actually birthed from the lies of bad Catholic Christianity.

On the Iberian peninsula during the late 1400s, or the fifteenth-century, the Aragonese, Castilian and Portuguese empires were finishing their ‘reconquests.’ What was this conquest truly about? The Catholic Church ordered a Crusade, or cruzada, against the Muslim invaders of the peninsula, which had taken place during the second decade of the 8th century A.D.

A religious war was in full operation, and not just against the Muslims, or moros, but also against all forms of Christian heresy, called herejes, such as Gnostic Christian churches, and there was also a war against the large Jewish communities found in most cities and towns in the peninsula, called juderías.

As the Christians, representing the Castilians, Aragonese and Portuguese, began to expel the religious enemies of the Church from the peninsula, the royal courts began issuing more restrictive laws and decrees against the religious enemies that stayed within the Iberian peninsula. All the religious communities, meaning the Christians, Muslims and Jews had lived within their own communities, or ghettos. This spatial segregation was already clear even within the Muslim cities on the peninsula.

When the Christians decided to siege an ‘enemy combatant’ city and took it, called toma, the Christian knights usually murdered a bunch of religious enemies unfortunate enough to walk the public streets, and then they turned the main mosque into a cathedral church. They soon forced the religious groups to stay within their own walled communities. Not only did the religious adversaries have to return to their districts at night, but they had to wear distinctive clothes and symbols sown on their outfits, even hats. They lost certain rights, called fueros, such as prohibitions from carrying swords in public, riding horses, attending universities, and the payment of certain taxes. The royal courts hoped these prohibitions would force the Jews and Muslims to convert to Christianity – or leave.

Many adherents did convert publicly to Christianity, others left, and yet some of them actually practiced their old religious beliefs in private, or mixed the old traditions with the new religion.

Once the Christian kingdoms had defeated the last of the Moorish kingdoms on the Iberian peninsula, called Nasrid Granada, on January 2, 1492, the Spanish state was ready for the final stage of its liquidation, or its Christian Crusade against all religious enemies, implying the Moorish Muslims and the Jews, or judios.

Two of the Christian kingdoms on the peninsula had already united into an imperial power, called Las Españas, or the Kingdom of the Spains, comprising Castile, (including the northern Celt-Iberian provinces of Galiza, Asturias, Santander), and Aragon, also including Catalonia and Valencia. There were also the recently reconquered southern, Muslim provinces of Extremadura and Andalucía, which fell under the jurisdiction of Castille.

A hundred years later, this imperial power would later include the kingdoms of Vizcaya, (the Basque Country), the Portuguese empire, and the conquered provinces of the Carib nation, (Las Islas Occidentales), the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily, (southern Italy), the Mexica Empire, (Aztec New Spain), the Tahuantinsuyu Empire, (Inca Peru), and the eastern Malay islands on the Pacific, Las Filipinas, or the Philippines, Flandes, the modern Benelux countries, Franche-Comte, (a province in eastern France), and El Ducado de Milano, or the Duchy of Milan in northern Italy.

By the decade of the 1580s, the Kingdom of the Spains transformed into the greatest world empire that human history had ever seen – and even greater than the Mongol empire of the 1240s, because the sun never set on the Spanish imperial flag.

Around hundred years earlier, the 1470s, the Spanish united Christian monarchy, or los reinos cristianos, also introduced the Holy Inquisition in order to uncover, punish and redeem any converted New Christians, or cristianos nuevos, who refused to fully practice the new faith, or that continued to practice the old religious traditions in private. Meanwhile, the royal throne issued full expulsions against any non-Christians that refused to convert: the Jews in 1492 and the Muslims in 1609.

With the danger of New Christians inside the Empire, the Spanish Inquisition developed a pseudo-scientific system for better surveillance, control, arrest and even physical extermination of the potential threats, called, limpieza de sangre, or blood cleanliness. According to those medieval experts, blood poisoning spread through mothers giving breast milk to their babies. The Spanish Catholic Church had found a new obsession with saving babies from poisoned heretical mother’s milk!

The inquisitors believed that people who had practiced un-Christian religions had then permanently poisoned their own blood-breast milk through religious heresy. Christianity has always had obsessions with blood and fire, in the case of the Holy Blood of Jesus on the Cross, and the Lake of Fire Hell in the Apocalypse for non-believers of the Christian religion.

The first racial division of modern history represented the religious divide between Old Christians who kept the true Catholic Christian faith, (and yet did not go over to the Protestant heresy in the later decades), and the New Christians, recent converts to Christianity, from the Jewish and Muslim faiths.

The first realm of religious enemies represented the pagan idolaters, (inclusive of the eastern religions, such as Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Taoists and Confucians), who if conquered through a Crusade or Holy War, had to convert to Christianity, with persuasion, or more than likely, with the sword, fire, and chains of violence.

The second group of adversaries were the other monotheist apostates, such as Jews and Muslims.

The most dangerous ones, or the religious terrorists in those days, were the heretics, or simply the Christians that refused to conform to Catholic doctrine and practice, such as the Gnostics, called alumbrados, the various Protestant sects, non-Catholic Orthodox, and the excommunicated Churches of the East, such as the Nestorians, Assyrians, Mandaeans and Copts.

As the Spanish Empire conquered new lands in the Americas, or the western hemisphere of the Earth, it needed cheap and servile labor for their plantation and cattle economies. Its enemies on two continents, the Western Hemisphere, or the Americas, and in Africa, were both pagan idolaters. If noble natives and Africans converted to Christianity, then they received noble privileges, such as carrying weapons, riding horses, wearing aristocratic European clothes and not having to work or pay taxes for a living.

If these former idolaters were commoners, and even if they converted to Catholic Christianity, they still could not receive any noble privileges, while they had to work for noble and wealthy Spanish colonials. During the decade of the 1580s in the Americas, Spanish colonials referred to these New Christian, darker skinned, native-African mixes as castas, or as racial castes.

Through the practices of the Spanish-Portuguese Empires, race had transformed into its modern, perverted, helter-skelter dimensions: internal population enemies dominated through the Nation-State, the losers of European colonial invasions and genocides, concern over a poisoned blood-gene pool, facial phenotypes, and low socio-economic status.

This is the true conception of the modern ideology of racialism, including its later variants of scientific racialism, positivism, utilitarianism, Malthusian overpopulation theories, prohibition against illegal drugs, social Darwinism, polygenism, craniometry, phrenology, eugenics, anthropology-culture studies, psychobabble and IQ, or Intelligence Quotient.

Racialism-Eugenics has existed as an important ideology in the maintenance of earlier colonial power relations, while it has instituted sophisticated social controls within contemporary society. It has become the state religion for most European nations and for all European colonial-settler states. This ideology defends the European sponsored imperial genocides against Natives, Africans and Asians, or against whatever non-European inferior cultures.

Racialism-Eugenics has further served as a bulwark for continual mass imprisonment and police murder against the poor inside of the ‘non-white’ population base. Most dreadfully, this pseudo-doctrine with its state institutional supports has enabled a type of self-hatred and inferiority complex within the targeted, darker people.

As the Afro-revolutionary Franz Fanon wrote, the colonized or ex-colonized must not only fight the actual oppressors and state criminals, but also has to acknowledge the demons of doubt and subservience within him or herself.

This fetid belief system would also move on to even greater societal targets: the poor in general regardless of color, the ‘criminal element,’ and the mentally ill. The sociopathic ideology still murders it potential victims and has destroyed millions of lives up to this actual day.

It now hides its evil works through various contemporary institutions: the mental hospital-social services clinic, the prison, and mandatory state schooling segregation, such as Special Education, Special Needs and Remedial Level Classes.

Let us continue to expose its sordid and covert history of institutional violence. As European settler-colonialism engaged in even more genocidal wars and slavery operations, the same race oil-grease to the imperial engines began to work on its own. The Spanish colonial masters developed over 64 different racial caste distinctions between white Spanish and the Native and African racial shades. We still use some of their racial terms today: mulato, negro, marron, mestizo, zambo, coyote and lobo.

As the 18th century, or the 1700s, continued, all the European colonial powers: Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, English, French and Danish developed the solid concept of ‘whiteness’ versus the supposed, darker scum of humanity: African slaves, Indian, (meaning American), savages and Hindu coolies, (in the India Subcontinent or South Asia).

During the 19th century, or the 1800s, European racialism took on a more ‘scientific’ or positivistic flair. Suddenly, a whole slew of European and European-American intellectuals, (too many to list in this essay), began to formulate philosophical-scientific theories on race, nation, culture, genetics, environment and brain-skull size.

Within all of these racialist theories there emerged our modern surrogate ideologies-sciences of Natural Evolution, Nationalism, Social Darwinism, Liberalism, Utilitarianism, Anthropology, Positivism, Social Psychology, or (social criminality-mental illness), Genetics, and the most violent and sinister of them all – Eugenics.

By the 20th century, Eugenics became the complete science in uncovering the true nature of the poly genetic races, blood poisoning, the elimination of skin color, the understanding of inferior beings, social pathologies, such as containment of the poor, the criminal elements, and the disposal of the mentally ill. In all the European nations and the European run colonial-settler states, from the United States to Australia to Canada to South Africa to every dictator pest in Latin America, state institutional policy supported a heavy defensive and offensive system against the internal-external race dangers.

The infernal methods against the rotten inferior beasts included outright physical genocide and mass imprisonment-forced slavery. Meanwhile, state actors forced kidnapping rings and mandatory schooling for Native children, inclusive of cultural genocide. Medical ‘professionals’ encouraged scientific experiments on host populations and forced sterilization against targeted women. Banking magnates allowed segregation of inferior groups within ghettos or within urban poverty zones, while the state denied any social benefits towards lower class recipients. In a sense, ‘the white-elite state’ hoped that the inferior breeds of half-humans would die out. The earlier over-population theories of Malthus became popular once again, and the European homegrown ideology of Fascism would put the final touches on the Racialist-Eugenics pseudo-science.

Up to our actual time, the ideologies of anthropology, liberalism, natural selection, social psychology, psychobabble, genetics and IQ have desperately tried to hide their racialist-eugenics past lives. This essay serves to expose the truth to all Anarchists, and to whomever else, about one of the world’s more vile ideological monsters.

American universities no longer have Eugenics studies, but this does not mean that the elites, who control our contemporary existence, do not believe in such theories. They still adhere to them, and this is the reason they send their children to highly segregated, university prep schools, where their fellow elites attend, and where very few of the racial vermin, poor, and criminal underclass will also attend – and where they definitely cannot afford the tuition.

This perverted-genocidal ideology and pseudo-science is still very much alive, both within the closed discussions and secretive meetings of world elites, such as Bilderberg and the World Economic Forum, and within the all of our contemporary institutions of social control: schools, corporate work sites, prisons, militaries, governments, media conglomerates and bureaucracies.

As long as the modern state maintains its rights to commit heinous crimes, so this ideology will continue to ooze its infections, and putrefy our lives and culture.

The wonders of feeling served, cared for, and looked after represent some of our greatest life experiences. Even when we are physically ill, good rest and wholesome care help us to achieve that piece of mind and marvelous plateau of comfort. These actions display the gifts of unconditional love and they can eventually lead to true healing.

One of the most brutal aspects inside the culture of modern capitalism has been its perversion of such care. Whether they have the names of ‘health care, culinary centers,’ or ‘festival parks,’ capitalism has mugged and institutionalized the older enchantments of strong familial relations and community bonds into their profit-making enterprises.

These institutions have even gone farther into the crimes of legal theft and profiteering. The occult history of restaurants actually began in China during the 1200s, and for our modern restos, in France during the 1700s.

On a rough day in 1760s Paris, a coarse gentleman was clumping in the thin, narrow, cobblestone and nasty dirt, medieval streets of the city. The season was the beginning of an early winter in late November. The cold air was dead with frost, yet whips of cool wind fury could brutally bite the toughest soldier. He was also walking during the ratty, early morning hours. The sky had possessed an overcast grey muddy tinge that led to more foreboding.

The man wore his black hair in long locks with a tail at the end. He was clothed in an overcoat, a vest, a white blouse shirt, and unlike other wealthier men at the time, had on worker pants, while his long black leather boots covered his lower pant legs. He was of medium height, mostly clean-shaven, except for a permanent stubble on the chin and cheeks, and his face had that look of deep thought mixed with the pains of human suffering. He suffered from a mysterious illness inside his belly, a common ailment for that historical time.

He was actually walking to a ‘restaurant,’ a specialized medical dining hall that would hopefully ‘restaurer,’ or restore his health. There were a few in Paris, and this one was famous for its large spoon and bowl over the front door that advertised its palliative care. In those days, they still didn’t use numbers for specific addresses.

When he finally arrived at the care place, there were already a group of men, women and children sitting at the common table. The common table had the name of ‘table d’hôte,’ or the host’s table. He sat down at the end and already felt a nagging feeling.

The hostess suddenly slammed the large soup containers, hard bread, and salt in the middle of the large wooden, dirty table. The center mass of sick people began to hog the soup for the best choices of boiled chicken scrap, ‘bouillon,’ or broth, and seasonal cooked veggies. The bowl went around the table and so the people at the ends had to deal with what was left over. Eating at these places was often a surprise, since the meals often sat for a long time in large pots over the kitchen fire. Such was the ‘pot luck’ in those days. The tired man ate his food and paid his usual cheap ‘écus’ for the simple fare.

He also noticed some out-of-town travelers from the provinces at the table. The hostess charged them the ‘traveler’ fee, which was more expensive. He felt lucky in that he was a ‘Parisian’ local and knew the going rate. Until this very day, many restaurants are notorious for trying to fleece and legally rob unwary customers and out-of-town visitors.

This type of restaurant lasted until the French Revolution of the 1790s. By the beginning of the nineteenth-century, the 1800s, unemployed cooks that had previously worked for the parasitical ‘aristocrats’ began to advertise their culinary skills. If they had any capital, they could open a ‘restaurant’ for the ‘bourgeoisie,’ or upper class, owner-elites. These elites wanted to taste the exquisite plates from the previous epoch of sensual-gluttonous, aristo dining, represented by ten course meals.

The cooks offered ‘menus,’ or selected plates for the day at fixed prices and at certain eating times of the day. The cook owners cut up the tables to make sure there was greater privacy for the paying diners. Such was the birth of the modern restaurant that still spits out its notoriety.

Fine restaurants have continued to thrive as the ultimate conspicuous show of elitism and consumption. The wealthy elites can eat the ‘fine food,’ and enjoy the restaurant ambience, while they thumb their noses at the lower classes that cannot often afford to dine out.

Restaurants would soon perfect their harsh, capitalist division of labor. First came the owner, then the day-to-day manager, next the hot cook, or main cook, ‘le chef,’ and later, the front staff, waiters and hosts, or ‘serveurs.’ and finally the rest of the back staff – busboys, prep and assistant cold plate cooks – and the lowly dishwasher-general cleaner. But in China, five hundred years earlier, the restaurant existed as the extension of the spice and food market.

During the Sung dynasty in China, around the 1230s, this political dynasty had constructed a new capital and market center called Hangzhou. Hangzhou was not an ordinary city for those times. This megalopolis sold every type of imaginable fish, meat, vegetable and fruit – and most importantly, herbs and spices. Within the massive market, the traveler could find Muslim merchants coming from their routes in Africa and Asia, and even well-traveled Jewish merchant traders resided in the city. Famous world travelers visited the site, such as Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta. The city was also the most populous city in the world with over one million inhabitants.

Within the canal and urban jungle labyrinth of markets, buyers and sellers, the visitor could taste the culinary wonders of the world. The majestic stories were quite famous concerning the beautiful city on the lake and the green hills surrounding it. The wonderful foods, tastes, exotic sights, stalls, markets, herbs, smells, and spices enchanted Europeans accustomed to the harsh medieval cereal, legume and vegetable diet.

European elites began to desire a more refined table and palette, and they also wanted more culinary art diversity and a regular diet of diverse meats and fishes.

Local food preparers in Hangzhou prepared stuffed dumpling delights, and mixed noodle and soup plates. These European elite desires for the gourmet plate led to the colonial sea race in order to find another maritime route to India, China and the South Seas, (or the South China Sea lands of Malays, Siamese, Khmers, Laos, and Annam-Champa, or Vietnam).

Six hundred years later, elite Europeans would become the colonial-imperial curse on the Earth. European elites had idolized the sensuality of food over the healthy and hearty diet of the European peasant. The display of wealth and class power had trumped the warm feeling of family and community around a simple, yet tasty fare.

Our modern restaurant is the sacred symbol of food idolatry, small time savage capitalism and the fraudulent display of class position. The resto ultimately serves the rich and lazy that refuse to cook for themselves. The elites want the culinary arts that come with money, yet they refuse to do the labor. Someone else must labor, and labor mercilessly, in order for the money people to enjoy the experience – and the profiteering.

This vice is especially true for the restaurant owners. They might know a lot about food, and a few might even have worked as chefs before, but their main hankering is for a profit, or taking advantage of the mark, or customer, and the laboring staff. If this means buying cheap, genetically modified wholesale food for consumption, leaving out side dish food in metal canisters with plastic wrap for over a month, charging triple prices for cheap drinks, or even taking half-eaten food scraps and putting them in the general use bins – they will do it. The restaurant owner truly wants to make a profit, not feed humanity out of love.

Some restaurant owners have never done kitchen work in their lives. They simply inherited the joint from their parents, or as small time capitalists, they went into restaurant work because they thought that the money would come quickly and easily. They often hire their friends and buddies from previous business ventures, and who also know very little about food and drinks, to manage the dives. Woe unto the service workers that have to deal with these restaurant hells. If the city health inspectors really did their jobs, they would close those rancid places down.

US Restaurants often attract the most vicious, petty, mean, and cheap bosses from the small business owner class, or the petit bourgeoisie. Due to the heavy use of cash, the restaurant racket, like construction, can easily hide the underground economy, or ‘under the table’ money, from the government. In America, the owners can get away with paying a slave wage to the front staff, since the marks, or the customers, are partly required to pay the servers’ wages through ‘tips.’

Also in America, restaurants like construction, hotels and cleaning services, are the mainstays in hiring illegal immigrant workers, In restaurants, they all tend to work and stay hidden in the back kitchen. If the kitchen workers complain, then a call to the Immigration Service will suffice. I have even seen with my own eyes, Latino-mestizo workers from Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador doing the hot cooking in varied ethnic restaurants, such as Indian, Japanese, French, Ethiopian and Thai places!

I have my own personal work stories. When I was younger, I only worked in the back kitchen as a dishwasher for the desperation of needed travel money. I usual bolted when I had made enough cash, or the managers just fired me for religiously taking my breaks. I noticed that many of the young cooks were serious hard drug addicts and a few even sold hard drugs from the back doors.

The waitresses also acted nasty and rude. There were some serious infighting and petty hatreds between the cooks, hosts and servers. The restaurant boss had successfully used the old divide and conquer strategy. No wonder coffee was always free to the wage and tip slaves. Worker turnover was always high.

The workers often counterattacked by making deals with the bartender, including sleeping with him or her, in order to cop free drinks – after the lazy owner went AWOL from the job. The cooks stole copious amounts of food for their own late night deep-frying. The petty and pathetic servers with bad attitudes even made fun of the regular customers to the other staff, who generally ordered their usual meals and drinks – and yet tipped those assholes well.

Some Anarchists counter the anti-restaurant arguments by arguing in favor of vegan-cooperative ventures, or small, family owned restaurants and ethnic food enclaves. But these restaurant options suffer from the same diseases of capitalism – making more money.

If all restaurants use funny money, than they have to make some base profit in order to survive. In family ethnic restaurants the bosses are still bosses and often demand that all the workers share their tips with the owner, which is one of the last holdouts of feudalism. In order for alternative coops to make money, they have to cut corners too, and especially with food freshness. Vegetarian-vegan hipster cooperatives are often the worst abusers of reusing old breads, rice, millet and quinoa, and nuking pre-prepared plates, often made a few days ago, inside of their multiple microwaves – so much for freshness.

If a regular customer that likes to go out to eat and could see inside the actual kitchens and operations of restaurants, then he or she would refrain from visiting them regularly. The real issue, and especially for us Anarchists, is not succumbing to the vicious culture of global capitalism. We continue to pay the servers through our tips in order to help a cheap small business owner make a profit.

We could do the cooking labor at our homes, or at someone else’s house where the fare is often better than the resto variety. At least we know the freshness content of the food we are using. Cooking is also an art, and it is open to all of us humans, since we all do art in some form. Eating out is quite expensive too.

In our contemporary world, we cannot simply avoid restaurants and ban them completely from our lives. But we can cherish those special visits and occasions at our local eating place with family and friends and during festivities.

For those of us that travel, we often have no choice in the matter. If we are in a foreign country, then we would also want to try the local dishes. Youth hostels offer a good option for travelers since most of them have shared kitchens for guests.

We should always remember that the modern restaurant began as an informal medical place for the sick. If we are alive and still healthy, then let’s control our own food consumption and share the cooking within our own families and among our own small, friendly communities.

January 27, 1889 was the date of decision. The day started out quite nice and sunny for a rough winter in that beautiful, modernized city of Paris. Construction workers had almost completed the stunning Eiffel Tower for the upcoming Worlds Fair in October. Many French people thought there was a confidence in the air. France recently suffered terrible losses to Germany during the Franco-Prussian War, and then there was the Commune Civil War that followed in 1871.

About twenty years earlier, the late dictator, Napoleon III, had commissioned an architect to demolish most of the medieval winding streets that had made Paris so romantic. The city still had its charms though, even with its wide boulevards that could march whole armies to better exterminate recalcitrant revolutionaries. This urban project was the first successful modern gentrification undertaking. Also around this time, French artists, writers, musicians and intellectuals had become world-famous through producing works that displayed the modern trends of Impressionism, Realism and Symbolism.

But there was another rumbling in the air that day. A French general by the name of General Boulanger had become the talk of the nation. This great and honorable man seemed to have fortune on his side. He was ready to retake his beloved France with the movement that supported him to power. This opportune winter moment was the day for his sunny ‘coup d’état.’

That French term meant that this military adventurer and strongman had to seize the day, take over the state, become a new Caesar, dictator – and even a tyrant. General Boulanger won the election to the French Parliament, La Chambre des députés, but he couldn’t bear to sit among the corrupt deputies that most French citizens hated. His ‘political movement’ wanted him to declare himself President, lead the French Army to disband the corrupt Congress and win back territories that the Second German Empire, or Second Reich, had seized during the last war.

The corrupt French press could not resist him, and they transformed the general into a greater than life, ‘Hero of the Nation.’ But there was more to the man than his press persona. The political mobilization that supported him was the real power behind such a figure. A bizarre political cabal had already mobilized angry French citizens, mostly conservative ones, who saw their country turn into something they hated. The French Third Republic was quite corrupt and the ideals of French Revolution seemed to matter little to the ambitious band of politicians in Paris.

A movement coalesced between old Monarchists, (Boulanger even spoke to Napoleon’s exiled family living in Switzerland), devout Catholics, and militarists who wanted to see France avenge its humiliating defeat against Germany, and possibly even – defeat the great British Empire and complete Napoleon’s sacred dream of the ‘L’empire français universel.’

The Boulanger political deployment started off as a propaganda agitation campaign. It next moved into a street mode of action, and then resorted to selective violence against its political enemies. Now they had their symbol personified in a dignified general that showed his public face against the corrupt republic.

The problem with this social movement was that it did not represent the whole of the country. Courageous French intellectuals began to expose the shaded groups behind the Man, and especially the political alliances in the shadows that hated the ideals of the French Revolution, which most of the French population did still support.

With the exposures against him, General Boulanger got scared, lost his honor and courage, and he flaked out with his coup d’état. The scheming plotter in the costume of a French general would eventually kill himself just two years later. This political moment in French History became the Boulanger Affair. It represented the first modern populist-social movement of France. This movement attempted to destroy the country in order to save it.

Populist-fascist social movements are the most powerful hegemonic political blocks in modern democratic countries. They emerge when the entire democratic system begins to rot from the inside. Corruption becomes rampant, the legislature transforms into paid off hacks, and the government turns into another tyrannical regime. Anger increases substantially through the citizenry, and especially among the male population. The term populism signifies a political movement geared for a large section of the people, or the ‘nation.’

Populist-fascist movements grab their power through unifying angry elite institutions with angry social movements, most often religious ones. Religious social movements work wonderfully because they have the best social meeting spaces: churches, mosques, synagogues and temples. Through uniting powerful people with powerful social movements, the populist-fascist social movements transcend into optimum political forces or complete counter-hegemonic blocks against the state – while making alliances with other scheming sections of the state. These contradictions are not apparent among the street level activists.

Once the populist-social alliances increase their organizing into mobilizations, they move powerfully into the political field, through both agitation and violence. They ultimately hope to seize the state in order to murder their enemies. They lost in 1880s in France, but they almost won about a hundred years later in the United States.

America in the mid 1980s and into the 90s was a volatile place. Right-wing intellectuals have often talked about that time in history as a type of ‘restoration’ under President Reagan – but it was anything like that. What really happened was that elements of the Republican Party, implying certain members of the old guard that surrounded Nixon, the disgraced former president, decided to form a powerful political alliance, or a new hegemonic block. This block would emerge as a powerful force in dividing the Democratic party electorate, which allowed that party to control the US Congress for over twenty years.

First, they forged an alliance with the Roman Catholic Church in the United States, which had about a quarter of the US population. The Catholic Church was always the strange Christian group looking on the outside compared to the standard Mainline Protestant Churches of America, such as the Baptists, Congregationalists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans and Episcopalians. But now they had a substantial part of the population, (about one quarter), and with special thanks to President Reagan allowing a Vatican ambassador to D.C. and signing the Immigration Reform Act into law – the first dice was cast.

Later, right-wing activists helped this base achieve even greater mobilization and power. The conservative activists in the Catholic Church set up the Moral Majority Organization using a Baptist political-preacher, (from the South), as a front man, named Jerry Falwell. Catholic conservatives would use this same strategy through mobilizing other single issue front group-crusades, such as fighting against the separation between Church and State, anti-homosexuality, anti-pornography, anti-teenage rebellion, anti-illegal drugs, anti-sex education, exposing Satanism in rock music and popular culture, and most importantly, anti-abortion.

Those particular political mobilizations proceeded into the street agitations. The single issue that could unite them was abortion. Phony anti-abortion evangelists, or disguised Catholic preachers, entered the parachurch world of Evangelicals that met in rented spaces, such as movie theaters, Mainline Protestant churches and even inside Masonic halls! These religious movements represented the Charismatic types that ‘spoke in tongues,’ or unintelligible gibberish, fell on the floor through being ‘slain in the spirit’; while selected parishioners blurted out prophetic statements during the worship, and the church goers danced sexually to Christian musicians playing a type of repetitive soft rock beat with militarized church lyrics, such as ‘Army, marching, warfare, battle, victory, etc.’

These disguised abortion preachers even entered the sacred Protestant spaces of Southern Baptist churches. For the first time in its religious history, the Roman Catholic Church forged a strong political alliance with its most hated rivals – the heretics, under the common single issue of abortion. History has always been so absurd.

The anti-abortion evangelists successfully mobilized these hurting people, or ‘heretics,’ into joining the crusade against abortion in America. In the beginning of the crusade, the main groups against abortion in America were political committees formed through the US Catholic Bishop’s Conference.

Suddenly, a populist-fascist social movement had conceived its nativity on the American political scene. Even former pro-choice Republicans, such as the Reagan successor, President Bush, joined the crusade. All of a sudden, angry activists were attacking, confronting and surrounding women’s health centers across the States, and then in the early 90s, the movement resorted to the common tactics of religious fanatics through murdering doctors and health providers across the country. A homegrown political terrorist net birthed, but America’s political police, the FBI, refused to take down the movement. A certain element of America’s political and intelligence elites had a big stake in the anti-abortion assemblage.

But the six laws of history had to come into play, and the Roman Catholic Church failed to understand the cultural blocks that had formed within the United States up to that time. American women had already achieved substantial power in society through fighting two previous waves of feminist agitation. Many American women had already attained important career and lifestyle choices in their lives, and they were not going to give up their hard-won privileges due to some anti-women, anti-abortion, anti-contraception religious fanatics.

America’s Women organizations countered the movement through fully allying with the Democratic party and mobilizing, not tens of thousands, but hundreds of thousands of citizens to annually march on D.C., something the anti-abortionists could not do. Some political elites in Washington stood aghast. Their sick plans of ‘national salvation and resurgence’ met a strong political counterforce.

The Republican Party countered with their Convention of 1992, which featured speeches of selected religious fanatics and fascists in order to scare the opposition. It did just the opposite. They looked quite bad on TV. The conservative Southern Democrat, Clinton, seized on the scare and placed himself into the political center. He won the presidency and all of a sudden, the federal government changed its tolerant policy with the populist-fascists, while they began to hunt the most extreme terrorists inside of the anti-abortion crusade.

The populist-fascist crusaders attacked President Clinton mercilessly through the press. But the president was also an expert killer like the ones that preceded him. He had the US government exterminate the Branch Davidian religious group in Waco as a warning and a lesson to the defiant holdouts in the Movement. It worked.

Abortion stayed legal in the US, even with a Supreme Court that had a Catholic majority. The Mormons decided to bolt from the anti-abortion alliance and leave it to the Catholic Church and the rattled Evangelicals. And then ‘Mala Fortuna,’ or Bad Fortune, stabbed the Catholic Church in the foot. Media headlines exposed to the public that the Catholic Church had protected pedophile priests and perverts within its ranks. The public exposure of such crimes permanently damaged the reputation of the Catholic Church in American culture. The Roman Catholic Church would never be able to return to its short glory that it possessed during the 80s and 90s.

The mobilization did work in intimidating many doctors from performing abortions. Now, it is difficult to find abortion providers in many parts of the States. But there also exists the abortion pill that does not require surgical procedures.

This anti-abortion movement has kept up the protests, but it could not seize the state in order to complete its extermination of the ‘evil ones.’ It achieved a stalemate. A hundred years earlier in France, it lost.

In Spain however, during the 1930s, it won. The Spanish populist-fascist movement won because it had the backing of foreign intervention: Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and the secret support of the British and American governments.

For us Anarchists, this modern political story can help us recognize the political environments that encourage these movements, how they mobilize, and how we can ultimately help destroy them.

Populist-fascist social movements lose when a more powerful alliance of institutions and the people reject their plans. They stalemate or tie when they meet equally powerful social-cultural-political mobilizations. They win when they have the outside support of powerful foreign governments.
